August ’25 Monthly Meeting – “A Girl’s Death, rugby, Rugby and Astronomy: Dating a Dolland Telescope
Earlsdon Methodist Church Hall, Earlsdon Avenue South, CV5 6DN
August 8th 2025 – 7pm – 9pm

Dr Seabroke is a Principal Research Fellow at UCL and is working on several European Space Agency missions (Gaia, GaiaNIR, ARRAKIHS, and others).
Dr Seabroke’s family has a long history in the field. His great, great grandfather (also named George) lived in Rugby and was the president of the BAA between 1900 and 1902. The Dolland telescope referred to in the title of this talk, has been in the family since the days of the turn of the 20th century and with the help of local historians, has unearthed the story of this telescope.
When I first read of this talk, I was a bit perplexed at the mysterious sounding title so thanks to Mike Frost for some background on what promises to be a very interesting presentation!
