Our meeting hall

Getting There

CAWAS monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Friday of each month at our meeting room on the first floor of the Earlsdon Methodist Church Hall, Earlsdon Avenue South CV6 6DN. Meetings start at 7pm and finish around 9pm with light refreshments served.

If you are making your first trip to the all, you’ll see a buzzer that you need press for access into the Hall. On entering the building walk straight ahead, turn left for the stairs leading up to the first floor meeting room. Turn left and the meeting room is at the end of a short corridor.

Our Meetings

The first part of our meetings typically comprises announcements, followed by “Sky Notes” presented by Mark who reviews forthcoming astronomical events for the month ahead, together with member’s observations with excellent photographs from the previous month. There is a printed copy available, or it can be downloaded from our website at www.covastro.org.uk.

After a refreshments break, a lecture follows, given by a visiting speaker, or by a society member. One such member is Mike Frost, who is also Director of the Historical Section of the B.A.A. and a keen solar eclipse chaser.

Lecture subjects are wide ranging, exploring all aspects of Astronomy from what happened in the past to what may happen in the future. Recent lectures have included biographies of pioneers in Astronomy; quite in-depth astrophysical analyses of astronomical phenomena; astrophotography techniques, and colonising Mars.

Mike Frost presents to the Society

Joining the Society is easy! You can either turn up to one of our monthly meetings or contact our Society members at the addresses below.

Although approximately 80% of the members have their own telescopes, possession of one is not a requirement as there is some equipment for loan, including a solar telescope, and observing opportunities are available and arranged by members of CAWAS and also in association with the Rugby Astronomical Society.
