July ’26 Monthly Meeting – How Big Is Space?

This month’s meeting sees Neil Haggath FRAS explain how astronomers measure the distances of astronomical bodies, and the history behind the various methods – from the Greeks measuring the distance of the Moon 2000 years ago to how we measure the distances of galaxies.
Neil has been a member of Cleveland and Darlington AS for 45 years ( despite now living in Derby ). He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, an author of a science fiction novel and an annual contributor to the Yearbook of Astronomy. In addition, Neil is a veteran of seven total solar eclipse expeditions so far, with five successful, and the next two planned.
